Copper (II) Biosorption from Aqueous Solutions by Green Algae Cladophora glomerata (L.) Kütz.
ABSTRAKT
Biosorption of heavy metals is an effective technology for the treatment of industrial wastewaters. The results presented here show the sorption of Cu2+ which are solutions of biomass of filamentous algae Cladophora glomerata. In this work the biosorption behavior of C. glomerata is investigated as a function of pH, amount of biosorbent, initial Cu2+ concentration and temperature. The results indicated that the biomass of C. glomerata is suitable for the development of efficient biosorbent for the removal and recovery of Cu2+ from wastewater. The high values of correlation coefficient (r2 < 0.97) indicate equilibrium data of algal biomass well fitted in Freundlich isotherms model equations.
