AB An experimental study is performed to optimize the working conditions for a methane/air flame leading to the reduction of (NOx) emissions. The model burners remain compatible with an atmospheric domestic water heater. The combustion is characterized by spontaneous emission spectroscopy of the flame and by temperature and stable chemical species concentration measurements. The measured NOx emission indexes are correlated to the working parameters: lean and low-input power flames lead to the lowest NOx formation. The influence of an acoustic perturbation on the flame structure and pollutant emission shows an important NOx reduction during an excitation of the partially premixed gases.
