It is shown that the fractional curl operator describes the polarization reversal of an electromagnetic field. The point is that the complex values of the fractional order correspond to the reversal of the linear polarization to the elliptic one. The fractional curl can be applied for describing the effect of the polarization reversal of a wave transmitted through a chiral layer. The order of a fractional curl is determined by the chirality parameters. The real values of the fractional order between 0 and 1 correspond to an ordinary dielectric layer and the rotation of a linearly polarized wave by an angle of π/2, respectively. %8 2008-05-12
