T1 Electrical Properties of Retinal Ganglion Cells of the Rats with Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes Mellitus JF International Journal of Physiology and Pathophysiology JO IJPP YR 2014 FD 2014-03-26 VO 5 IS 1 SP 57 OP 63 K1 retinal ganglion cells K1 streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus K1 voltage-dependent currents K1 firing activity K1 calcium signal AB On isolated retinal preparation from rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus in whole-cell configuration, basic electrical properties of retinal ganglion cells (RGC) were studied. It has been shown that on the 8th week after streptozotocin injection, maximal depolarization-induced firing frequency is reduced and decay time constant of high-frequency stimulation-induced calcium signals increases, compared with the values in control animals. The data obtained point at functional changes in RGC of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats, and possible mechanisms of such changes are discussed.
