Abstrakt

A new design of split winglets for the small commuter aircraft, NAL Saras is proposed which is analysed by varying three major parameters namely the sweep angle, height, and profile, to obtain an optimized design for better performance. The design is done on CATIA V5. The parameters are analysed using Ansys Fluent 19.1 by varying them across acceptable limits and the results are tabulated for a comparative analysis. The results obtained are validated against CFD Optimization of Winglets [7] and further verified by conducting a mesh independent study. The primary focus is on establishing proof of concept that split winglets are more efficient than the blended and elliptical winglets by maximising L/D ratio.
