Abstrakt

In the present study, a comparative study of thermal resistance of the micro pin fin heat sinks with different shapes (square and elliptical), and arrangements (interrupted and staggered) is presented. Experiments are performed on micro pin fin heat sink using deionized (DI) water as the coolant. A numerical model with suitable boundary conditions is developed and validated with the experimental results by comparing pressure drop and temperature at different locations of micro pin fin heat sink. The conjugate heat transfer effect (in numerical and experimental results) shows considerable temperature variations in the inlet and outlet collectors of the micro pin fin heat sink. It is found that the shape of micro pin fin heat sink has considerable effect on the thermal resistance as compared to arrangement.
