In recent years modelling of combustion behaviour of single coal, particle gained a lot of interest due to the dependency of major combustion parameters on the various models of devolatilization and char combustion. In the present work, a comprehensive mathematical model for the combustion of single particle of pulverized coal in the surrounding of quiescent hot gas has been developed employing MATLAB. The effect of various devolatilization and char combustion models on the temporal history of particle mass and particle temperature has been investigated. The influence of coal composition, coal particle diameter and free stream gas temperature on particle temperature and particle life history has also been studied. The results of the developed model are compared with experimental result available in the literature and acceptable agreement between the current modelling results and experimental results has been found.
