ABSTRAKT

A mini- loop heat pipe (mini-LHP) with a heat capacity of 100W was designed, fabricated and tested. This paper reports various tests carried out on the mini-LHP. First, the mini-LHP is characterized at various heat loads from 20W to 100W in steps with different sink temperatures at 5°C, 10°C and 20°C in thermo-vacuum chamber. Thermal performance test was carried out at different stages: pre-vibration, post vibration and aftershock. It was observed that there is no change in the performance before and after the vibration tests. The maximum evaporator temperature was around 42°C at a heat load of 100W with sink temperature at 5°C. Under this condition, thermal resistance from the evaporator to sink was 0.37°C/W. Further, the experimental measured steady state temperatures were compared with numerical data obtained from an in-house developed thermal mathematical model. The numerical data correlates well with the experimental data. This paper presents the details of the mini-LHP, experimental thermal performance test results and comparison with the numerical model.
