ABSTRAKT

Flame control is a key issue for improvement of the performance of furnaces and boilers as far as efficiency and pollutants emission are concerned. Digitisation of flame images detected by CCD cameras provide the input required by computer vision systems to classify the flame. This is useful for monitoring purposes but it can also feedback information to the control and supervisor systems.
A mathematical model simulating the role of the CCD camera by computing the flame image was previously developed. Here, the model is applied to a turbulent free propane diffusion flame for which experimental data is available. It is also shown how the model can be used to calculate several flame features related to the burning process. In addition, the influence of the position of the camera on the digitised flame image is analysed.
