DEVELOPMENT OF THE CAPABILITY OF ENERGYPLUS SOFTWARE TO SIMULATION OF BUILDING DOUBLE-SKIN FACADE
ABSTRAKT
Recently, there has been an increasing use of double skin facades in buildings. A proper design of such facades may lead to a decrease in the heating and cooling loads of buildings. The increasing trend of usage of these facades reveals the significance of their thermal analysis and energy simulation. EnergyPlus is one of the main softwares for analyzing the energy in buildings. The present study investigates the capability of EnergyPlus software to analyze the double skin façades and proposes two approaches for this purpose; 1) Air Flow Window (AFW) and 2) Air Flow Network (AFN). However, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code is linked to the software in the former, and the feature of the software capability to analyze the natural convection is implemented in the latter. A comparison of the results obtained from the usage of the empirical and other softwares confirms the applicability of the mentioned methods to analyze the double skin facades. AFN method represents more accurate results.
