Abstrakt

The melt down of the Chernobyl Reactor Unit 4 that happened on 26 April 1986 is the worst Nuclear Power Plant accident in history in terms of resulting deaths, health issues and costs. It is one of only two accidents classified as a level 7 event (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011). New Safe Confinement (NSC) over the Object Shelter (OS) and destroyed Unit #4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) is a unique steel construction arch-shaped with a height of 110 m, width of 250 m and length of 160 m (fig. 1), which was slid over the SO in November 2016 for the protection of the environment from radiation and radioactive aerosols (RA) during the SO dismantling and the 100 years operation of the NSC.
