Abstrakt

Natural convection heat transfer is widely used in many applications of heat exchangers and cooling of electronic equipment. It does not employ electric fans or any moving parts. It's valuable characteristics include high reliability, low noise and no need of an additional power source. Heat transfer coefficient of natural convection, however, is significantly lower than that of forced convection, and is limited to cases of relatively low heat flux.
The purpose of this work is to enhance the heat transfer coefficient of natural convection from a heated object near the ground using a vertical duct. The system has been well known as a device to ignite fire. Nevertheless, only a few studies have been reported on this system. Those studies examined heated objects far from the ground and with sufficient opening at the bottom of the duct. Inlet air was not restricted to enter the duct.
