FEATURES EXTRACTION FROM POTENTIAL MAPS
ABSTRAKT
Potential maps (PM) are generally used as a display mode for the spatial distribution of potentials in many scientific and engineering disciplines, where specific sources generate potential fields. Thus, distributions of potentials are commonly measured, calculated, analyzed, recorded and displayed.
The display and visualization of potential distributions are quite complicated, since a 3D display of continuous data usually produces hidden areas. The task is even more complicated when dealing with sequences of potential distributions. The amount of data is huge; data manipulation is time and memory consuming, and usually quite slow. The common way of handling such problems is by a 2D PM display which requires discretization of the data: only certain specific levels of potentials are displayed as isopotentials, isobars, isoclines, isosmotic lines, etc.
