In this study, the thermally enhanced shrinking of a nanoink droplet in a surrounding liquid is investigated. The fluid within the droplet consists of gold nanoparticles and toluene as a base fluid, that is surrounded by water. After the initiation of the process the toluene diffuses over the interface between the two phases into the water, causing the nanoink droplet to shrink. The shrinking of the droplet can be controlled thermally by enhancing the solubility of the droplet into the surrounding medium. On this account the influence of laser and conductive heating of the inner or outer phase on the process are investigated in parametric studies and compared to the isothermal case. The numerical model is based on the transport equations for mass, momentum and energy in spherical coordinate. It considers all important thermophysical phenomena such as the transfer of energy and species over the moving interface as well as particle transport and diffusion processes within the droplet and the surrounding medium. In both phases the temperature and concentration fields are solved using a second order finite difference scheme in space and implicit Euler in time. A Landau transformation is employed to allow for a numerical solution in a fixed grid, even though the interface is moving.
