The authors developed two similar mathematical models to characterize the transient response of the heat transfer coupling in steady parallel flows over a plate of finite thickness. The transients are induced by a temperature step change or a sudden surface heat flux imposed at the plate back surface. The solution methodology relied on the Karman-Pohlhausen approach with instantaneously adaptive polynomial profiles for fluid and plate temperatures. The polynomials used in the integral conservation equations for momentum and energy, together with appropriate assumptions, lead to ODE's as governing equations. The models were validated against other models with a maximum error of 6.5%. The polynomial velocity and temperature profiles facilitated also an illustration of the entropy generation within the fluid and the plate by viscous dissipation and/or thermal conduction.
