ABSTRAKT
Large Eddy Simulation (LES) using three dimensional explicit commutative filters is applied to turbulent channel flow. The governing equations were discretized using a fourth order conservative finite difference scheme. Both the Dynamic Smagorinsky Model (DSM) and the mixed model were used as Subgrid Scale (SGS) models. The mean velocity profile predicted using the commutative filters overestimates the log law region compared to DNS results. The overprediction of the profile is greater when the DSM is used compared to the mixed model. The overprediction seems to depend upon the procedure of calculating the eddy viscosity in combination with the commutative filters.
