The paper deals with the development of practical applications of the theory of electromagnetic interaction of eigen fields of the open slot lines and resonators with the boundary layers of physical media, dielectric materials, and coatings. A characteristic equation for the electromagnetic natural frequencies of a longitudinal-slot cylinder near an interface of two media is derived and analyzed numerically. Spectral characteristics of the considered system for some realistic materials are given.
