ABSTRACT

The traditional puff air-quality dispersion model does not consider looping of the plume caused by eddies larger than the instantaneous depth of the cloud. The model presented (SPELL), which simulates the center of mass of each puff as a Lagrangian particle, is able to describe such behavior. The puff expansion is expressed using a model derived from work of Mikkelsen et al. [1]. The Lagrangian trajectories of each particle/center of mass are calculated by following the Luhar and Britter [2] model. Both parts rely on the spectral representation of Degrazia et al. [3]. The model performances have been evaluated against field experimental concentration data. This hybrid modeling approach is a promising technique in the regulatory air pollution context.
