Cylindrical Explosion in a Nonhomogeneous Plasma Atmosphere with a Magnetic Field

SINOPSIS

Discussed in the paper is the cylindrical explosion in a nonhomogeneous plasma atmosphere with a magnetic field oriented along the explosion axis. An approximate method combining the Kompaneyetz equation with Whitham's method of characteristics is suggested for solving the problem.
The shock wave form is calculated numerically for specific laws of variation of the nonperturbed plasma density and magnetic field, and the effect of the magnetic field on the MHD shock wave velocity is estimated.
