SINOPSIS

The content of Al, Mn, Cu, and Cr was studied in the water of the rivers of the Pripyat River basin characterized by a rather high concentration of humus substances. The highest content was typical to Al(III), which was followed by manganese, copper, and chromium. Relationship between suspended and dissolved forms of the studied metals was investigated. It has been found that the suspended from of migration is typical to aluminum and chromium. A large portion of manganese was observed in the dissolved state, which was conditioned by the formation of complexes with humus substances. Copper occurred mainly in the dissolved form. Rather high concentrations of dissolved aluminum often prevailing over its suspended form were observed in the rivers with the highest content of humus substances. Humus substances are of considerable importance in the formation of complexes, which results in the predominance of anionic complexes of metals. The compounds with the molecular mass ≤ 2.0 kDa prevail among them.
