SINOPSIS
Production experiments in situ and in vitro, as well as experiments on feeding and data on oxygen consumption by the free-living ciliates made it possible to study their energy budget depending on the temperature of a medium. On this basis the following coefficients were calculated: assimilation coefficient (U = 0.58), efficiency of using the consumed food for growth (K1 = 0.26), and efficiency of using the assimilated food for growth (K2 = 0.43). The temperature corrections are given to determine the natural level of ciliate metabolism under different temperature conditions.
