SINOPSIS
Totally, seven seasons, including winter, spring, early summer, summer, late summer, autumn, and late autumn, were distinguished in the annual cycle of the development of plankton by the methods of cluster analysis based on the data obtained in 1988-2000 in three zones belonging to various types of the vertical structure of waters in the northwestern part of the Japan Sea. The peculiarities of the composition of seston in each season, and also annual dynamics of the development of plankton depending on the rate of heating of the water body, were revealed.
