Modeling of Two-Phase Heat Transfer Loops with High-Pressure Capillary Pumps

SINOPSIS

The challenge of increasing the maximum heat transfer capacity of loop heat pipes (LHP) is considered. Simple analytical relations for determining the heat transfer capacity of LHP are obtained. LHP with high-pressure capillary structures (ΔPσ > 40 kPa) are studied experimentally. A limit in the heat transfer capacity of LHP with isotropic capillary structures is found analytically and experimentally. It is concluded in order to increase the heat transfer capacity of LHP that we should use anisotropic capillary structures.
