SINOPSIS

The enhanced heat scavenging ability of loop heat pipe (LHP) is well utilized in the thermal management of spacecrafts and electronic devices. Although significant exploratory work has been carried out in studying both transient and steady nature of LHP with different types of working fluids, there appears to be a dearth of documented experimental data on the nature of flow structure inside the evaporator compensation chamber during phase change. Present study of the ebullition activity is a step forward to investigate the coupled dynamics of bubble generation frequency and heat transfer characteristics. In the present study, temperatures are measured at different locations in the evaporator and subsequently, heat transfer coefficient is calculated for different heat loads. Bubble generation in the compensation chamber is visualized and dependence of different parameters such as bubble diameter, frequency and velocity on heat loads is determined.
