Heat Transfer Enhancement Due to Oscillating Heated Cylinder in a Cross Flow at Low Reynolds Numbers
SINOPSIS
Numerical simulation is performed to study the flow structure and heat transfer characteristics of a heated oscillating (transversely, inline, and orbitally) cylinder in a cross flow. The variations of flow and thermal fields are classified into a class of moving boundary problems. The moving interfaces between the fluid and cylinder have been considered. The effects of the dimensionless amplitude (0.0 to 0.5), reduced frequency (0.0 to 0.55), and Reynolds number (80 to 600) on the heat transfer rate have been investigated. The numerical predictions have been compared with the existing information and good agreement has been found. The ratio of Nusselt number enhancement is 16%, 45%, and 49% in transverse, inline, and orbital oscillations, respectively comparing with a fixed cylinder.
