A FLOW VISUALIZATION TECHNIQUE FOR VORTICAL WATER FLOW INSIDE A PIPE
SINOPSIS
The present study develops a flow visualization technique for observing the vortical motion of water flow and the liquid-solid interface inside a horizontal isothermally cooled pipe. The test section was a double tube heat exchanger with an inner copper tube and outer plexiglass pipe. A plexiglass light-guided ring was installed in a section of the inner copper tube. A ring shaped fluorescent lamp illuminated circumferentially the test section to visualize the flow from the outlet. The vortical flow was induced by cooling of the inner copper tube. The vortical flow patterns and liquid-solid interface were made visualizable by seeding the diluted mercurochrome solution into the water flow.
