SINOPSIS

This paper deals with an experimental study of a fluctuating DC argon plasma jet using refractive index measurements. First, theoretical considerations are recalled, in order to justify the choice of a probing infrared wavelength (CO2 laser at 10.6 mm). Since the considered plasma jet has a cylindrical symmetry, the deflection angle of the probing laser beam given by the gradient indexes allows to determine the electron density on the axis of the plasma column.
