A TOUCH SENSOR BASED ON A TENSORESISTIVE POLYMER

SINOPSIS

For a copolymer having a glass transition temperature of 12°C, the weight ratio of monomers (methacrylate:butyl acrylate:acrylic acid) is equal to 50:45:5. By varying the ratio of monomers in the copolymer composition, copolymers can be synthesized with a glass transition temperature from -50°C to 100°C. To enhance the stability of solutions, graphite with a particle size of 1 μm and of C-1 brand was selected as a filler. Being low-conductive, the graphite has a much lower specific gravity and high resistance to oxidation as compared with a metal filler; it is compatible with the polymer and the chosen solvent − ethyl cellosolve. After drying the thickness of the polymer-graphite composite layer was 80 μm. Then a copper electrode was deposited through the mask of this layer. We measured the dependences of the composite conductivity on load on a stand, consisting of a rod with a tip at the end, made from stiff rubber and sliding in the guide sleeve. We carried out measurements for various combinations of composite (carbon fraction 50%), methods, and modes of manufacture. The obtained dependences are linear in the range of several hundredths pascal to several megapascal, the dependence of sensitivity on pressure changes, but slightly. The hysteresis value during unloading/loading processes was 10-15%. The dynamical range was several tens.
