LAMINAR-TURBULENT TRANSITION CONTROL USING A DIELECTRIC BARRIER DISCHARGE

SINOPSIS

The use of a dielectric barrier discharge for delay of a laminar-turbulent transition excited by natural flow disturbances is investigated experimentally. The optimal electrode configuration and the optimal regime of the high-voltage impulse generator that provides the maximal downstream shift of the transition location have been found. It is demonstrated that a 10% increase of the laminar zone of a boundary layer can be obtained using the barrier discharge with cross-flow electrodes.
