APPLICATION OF THE HIGH-RESOLUTION RANS/ILES TECHNOLOGY FOR FLOW SIMULATION AND THE NEARBY ACOUSTIC FIELD OF NEAR-WALL JETS AND MIXING LAYERS
SINOPSIS
Numerical investigations of off-design supersonic free jets and near-wall jets as well as the interactions of these jets with a jet deflector mounted at an angle to the wall are performed using a combined high-resolution Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes/implicit large-eddy simulation (RANS/ILES) method. Simulations are performed on multi-block–structured grids with (2.8–6.69) × 106 cells. The influence of the wall on the transverse spreading of the near-wall jets is investigated. Simulations of the near-wall jet interaction with a jet deflector are performed for cold and hot off-design supersonic jets. The effects of the temperature on the nozzle inlet on the flow in the jet, turbulence characteristics, the nearby field of static pressure fluctuations, and distribution of the temperature and static pressure fluctuations along the wall and jet deflector are obtained. Acceptable agreement with the experimental data for the flow and turbulence parameters and the integral level of the pressure fluctuations is obtained for the investigated jets. Simulations of the subsonic external flow over three-dimensional and quasi-two-dimensional (of infinite width) cavities are performed. The effect of the cavity width on the level of the pressure fluctuations and temperature in the cavity is specified. In the quasi-two-dimensional case the effect of synthetic jets blowing on the flow in the cavity is investigated. Two variants of slot positions for the synthetic jet outlet (along and across the flow) were considered. The dependence of the effect of the slot position for the jet blowing and synthetic jet regime parameters on the level of pressure and temperature fluctuations and the spectral density of the static pressure fluctuations in the cavity is obtained.
