SINOPSIS

In this paper, a voxel upscaling method for digital rock is proposed; with a given upscaling factor, the porosity is chosen as the fitting function to optimize the segmentation threshold based on dichotomy, and the corresponding digital rock may be obtained; Finally, for homogeneous sandstone and heterogeneous carbonate rock, the optimal segmentation thresholds with different upscaling factors are analyzed; also the corresponding geometry and topology parameters are compared based on the pore network model. Results show that the voxel upscaling method for digital rock with dichotomy can calculate the optimal segmentation threshold quickly, and the corresponding voxels of digital rock decrease greatly, which could improve the calculation efficiency highly; Meanwhile, the optimal segmentation threshold could reflect the rock heterogeneity to some extent; the higher the optimal segmentation threshold is, the greater the rock heterogeneity will be, and the optimal segmentation threshold decreases with the increase of the upscaling factor; The sandstone voxel representative elementary volume (REV) is obtained with the structure analysis of each digital rock. All these results are of important significance for the upscaling study from microscopic scale to macroscopic scale.
