AN IMPROVEMENT ON THE CRYOGENIC AIR SEPARATION SYSTEM OF A CO2 RECOVERY POWER PLANT WITH O2/CO2 COMBUSTION
SINOPSIS
An improvement on the cryogenic air separation process is proposed and an exergy analysis of the process is performed. In the improved process, a single rectification column is used in place of a double rectification column in order to reduce the exergy loss from air compression. LNG fuel for the power plant can be utilized in the air separation process. In the proposed process, the amount of LNG utilized for cooling is equal to the requirement for the combustion process. The exergy loss in air compression and heat exchange decreases, and the energy consumption for O2 generation decreases by 14 to 40.7% compared with the conventional double column process. Furthermore, an improvement on the net efficiency of the CO2 recovery power plant is achieved. The net efficiency increases by 0.9 to 2.2%, compared with the reference plant.
