SINOPSIS
We have shown disturbances in energy supply of the walls of the thoracic aorta and posterior vena cava of rabbits after 3 weeks from starting alloxan-induced diabetes and monoiodacetate-induced intoxication manifested as a reduction of glucose uptake and oxygen consumption, lactic acid production and re-synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the preparations of studied vessels. At the same time, the ATP content significantly reduced in the tissues of the arteries and veins. The possible significance of such disturbances in the development of Monckeberg’s sclerosis is discussed.
