SINOPSIS

Responding to a request from a recovery audit contractor (RAC) is similar to appealing a claim denial. Rehabilitation providers need to scrutinize their Medicare claims and develop a comprehensive audit preparation plan. This article will provide the nuts and bolts of administrative practice changes needed to operate successfully under any audit program, in particular the RAC. The article will provide an overview of the RAC demonstration project, the appeals process, RAC team preparations, and documentation strategies for addressing inpatient rehabilitation audits.
