SINOPSIS

The influence of various concentrations of copper, lead, and cadmium ions on motility of Dunaliella viridis cells and the dynamics of induced aggregation of cells were studied. The introduction of ions of the mentioned metals into the culture medium led to the loss of cell motility in Dunaliella and depended on the concentrations of metal ions in the medium. However, this dependence was not linear. The process of cell immotility developed over time in the case of copper and lead ions; for cadmium ions, it only slightly depended on the concentration and time. Copper and lead ions induced cell aggregation, which depended on the concentration of ions in the medium and time of incubation. At the same time, cadmium ions produced no influence on the induction of cell aggregation. All metal ions may be divided into two groups: those that induce and those that do not induce the aggregation of D. viridis cells.
