SINOPSIS

Peculiarities of distribution of the diatom alga Didymosphenia geminata (Lyngb.) M. Schmidt in Lake Baikal (Russia) and seasonal dynamics of its phytomass were studied. The role of D. geminata in the phytobenthic associations of the littoral zone of the lake is shown. The adverse effects of the sewage of the Baikalsk Pulp and Paper Industrial Complex on the alga have been noted.
