A biologically active compound from the blue-green alga Calothrix intricata Fritsch CALU 908
SINOPSIS
The blue-green alga Calothrix intricata Fritsch CALU 908 inhibits the development of the endoparasitic microorganism Amoeboaphelidium protococcarum Gromov et Mamkaeva in cells of green algae. The effect is caused by an active compound which contains nitrous heterocycle and can be extracted from the cells of C. intricata by butanol. The compound causes the lysis of free amoebae of the parasite. The intracellular plasmodium is not sensitive.
