T1 Peculiarities of Plankton of Lake Chany (the Western Siberia, Russia) JF Hydrobiological Journal JO HYD YR 2006 FD 2006-08-31 VO 42 IS 4 SP 52 OP 61 AB Lake Chany represents a large natural plain water body with a high water salinity located in the Southwestern Siberia. A total of 230 species of phytoplankton and 122 species of zooplankton was found in the lake. Lake Chany includes five connected sections differing in the degree of water salinity. The species composition of plankton, its numbers, biomass, and production were studied in each section of the lake. It has been found that water salinity is one of the main ecological factors influencing the development of plankton in Lake Chany. The increase in the degree of water salinity is accompanied by a decrease in the species diversity of phyto- and zooplankton, and also by changes in their numbers and biomass.
