After the accident, and also after the removal of the Chernobyl NPS from operation, the species composition and taxonomic structure of periphytic algae changed, whereas the number of their species essentially decreased. Significant changes were registered in the complex of leading species. All species of blue-green algae belonging to facultative thermophytes disappeared.
