The problems of imaging and analysis of dynamic fields arise in numerous engineering and biomedical applications. Examples of dynamic studies of spatially distributed systems include object tracking, flow visualization, unsteady heat and mass transfer and dynamic tomography of the human body [1, 2].
It is possible to select two distinct subsets of dynamic image analysis problems. The first set of problems is aimed at the analysis of dynamic scenes, i.e. tracking and identification of moving objects changing position, shape and orientation [1]. The second set of problems deals with the analysis of dynamic fields, represented by continuous smooth functions of space and time and reflecting the temporal behavior of some distributed parameter, e.g. the changes of radioactive isotope concentration inside the body or the variations of the temperature field of some object. This paper concentrates on the second set of problems and presents a review of some general approaches aimed at providing a set of effective computer tools for imaging and analysis of dynamic fields.
