SINOPSIS
Toward understanding the effect of compressibility on inhomogeneous turbulent shear flow, we examine the evolution of Reynolds stresses in a Kolmogorov flow. Starting from a simple set of initial perturbations, we investigate the contributions of production, pressure-strain correlation, dissipation and turbulent transport as a function of time. The findings are expected to provide a physical basis for developing closure models that account for effect of compressibility.
