SINOPSIS

The characterization of a spherical gas bubble in various sound fields is investigated numerically. The temperature and pressure fields generated by the collapsing of a microsize argon bubble in an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid under the action of different ultrasound fields are estimated numerically by assuming at first a spatial uniformity of pressure inside the bubble and then taking spatial distribution of the pressure into account. For the two cases, both heat transfer inside the bubble and heat transfer to the surrounding liquid are considered. The numerical results are in good agreement with available experimental data for an oscillating bubble under a strong acoustic field. However, the results reveal that for small amplitudes of the acoustic pressure, less than 0.7 bar, the spatial uniformity of pressure was valid and the two assumptions approximately gave the same maximum temperature and pressure fields during bubble oscillation. Therefore the two assumptions can be used in the simulation of bubble dynamics in case of a weak acoustic field only.
