SIMULATION OF MEASURING RCS OF COMPLEX SCATTERERS BY THE DECOMPOSITION METHOD
RÉSUMÉ
In the paper, a technique is suggested for measuring the monostatic radar cross section (RCS) of radar targets of complex geometry by decomposition method. The main idea of this technique consists in performing a set of RCS measurements in the near-field zone for separate parts (fragments) of an object. The RCSs obtained as a result of such measurements for all individual parts of the object are summed which makes it possible to estimate the average RCS of the entire object for the corresponding angle. The suggested technique is essentially simpler and easier implementable as compared with the methods of RCS measurements in the far-filed zone of the object. In the paper, difficulties are discussed of performing RCS measurements in the far-field zone within the horizontal plane and for non-zero elevation angles. The main features of the decomposition method are described in detail and results of computer simulation of the suggested algorithm operation are presented. A metal model of the T-90 tank was used in the capacity of the investigated object. Within the frame of the decomposition method, a model projection on the plane perpendicular to the viewing direction is divided into separate fragments and then RCS for each of the model fragments are calculated. It is shown in the paper that the decomposition method makes it possible to estimate the RCS of the entire object.
