RÉSUMÉ

The present paper is devoted to the activity of Academian A.Ya. Usikov who was one of the first scientists standing at the cradle of in caption of the renowned scientific and engineering entity like the Institute of Radiophysics and Engineering of the national Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kharkov). The history of the Institute is closely associated with digital image processing that was pioneered by A.Ya. Usikov. A good deal of attention is given both to providing diffracted-limited resolution in observing an object through the turbulent atmosphere and to the novel advances that have been made along these lines over the course of the last few years.
