RÉSUMÉ
Transient burning rate behavior of a solid propellant under very rapid pressure excursion was observed non-intrusively using X-ray radiography. Steady-state burning rate was also determined using an optical strand burner. It was found that the transient burning rate can indeed differ significantly from the steady-state burning rate at the same pressure level. Depending upon the entire history of the pressurization process, the transient burning rate can also vary remarkably from one test to another. A correlation relating transient burning rate with instantaneous pressure and pressurization rate was determined.
