RÉSUMÉ

A new approach to establishment of the ecological potential of heavily modified and artificial water bodies, technoecosystems is proposed. Similar to principles of the EU Water Framework Directive, it is based on the comparative methodology. As a benchmark for comparison (reference), it is proposed to develop "technically and environmentally acceptable characteristics of the state" of a waterbody or a techno-ecosystem.
