ANALYSIS OF THE BEHAVIOR OF MESOPOROUS ANATASE NANOCRYSTALLINE TITANIUM DIOXIDE FILMS APPLIED TO DYE-SENSITIZED SOLAR CELLS
RÉSUMÉ
Mesoporous titanium dioxide films were synthesized using a ternary system consisting of butanol, HCl, and pluronic P123. The films sensitized by dithiocyanate-N,N'-bis(4-carboxylate4-tetrabutyl-ammoniumcarboxylate-2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) showed a high global efficiency for current generation (∼2.8%) under AM1.5 conditions. The films were characterized by x-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption, and transmission electron microscopy, which confirmed the presence of disordered mesopores with different sizes wrapped in a titania anatase phase. The films also showed a capacitive behavior when they were electrochemically characterized using poly(ethylene oxide-co-2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl glycidyl ether) P(EO-EM) as a polymeric electrolyte. This feature is mainly associated with its random mesoporous structure within the anatase titanium oxide film, which traps electrons along the film, decreasing the reduction of I2 to I− and releasing charge for redox reactions under dark conditions.
