RÉSUMÉ

Steady flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past a porous sphere of radially increasing permeability embedded in another homogeneous porous medium has been investigated. The flow within the porous medium is governed by the Brinkman equation and boundary conditions used at the surface of sphere are the continuity of normal and tangential velocity and stress. An analytical solution of the problem is obtained and relevant quantities such as stream lines, velocity, pressure, and drag on surface of sphere are obtained. The influence of the permeability parameters on the stream lines, radial velocity, and drag force has been discussed and exhibited graphically. In the limiting case, obtained non-dimensional drag force reduces to the classical result of drag force on the impervious sphere in an stream of clear fluid flow is 6π. Also, it is found that permeability parameter has a strong effect on the flow. Obtained results are useful for the flow past porous particles of variable permeability.
