RÉSUMÉ

The problem of minimization of thermal stresses (TSs) in a solidifying cylindrical ingot produced by continuous casting is considered and solved by the direct iteration extremal method. The data obtained are compared with the results of TS calculation obtained by the Yu. A. Samoilovich technique. The direct extremal method of TS minimization in a continuously-cast ingot with restriction imposed on the volume of a molten-metal pool can be used for designing software to calculate optimum continuously-cast ingot production practice.
