Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Composite Parallel Plate Channel: Utilizing the Low-Reynolds-Number k − ε Model

RÉSUMÉ

This study investigates heat transfer enhancement for a flow in a channel with a porous medium inserted. The porous medium either fully or partially fills the channel. Force turbulent flow is assumed. The effects of porous layer thickness and permeability of the medium on the rate of heat transfer were investigated. Developing and fully developed flow conditions are considered in the analysis for different Darcy (permeability) and Reynolds numbers. Numerical results obtained utilizing the low-Reynolds-number k − ε turbulent model are computed and analyzed in detail.
